Hi guys, I've been asked a lot about this subject. Many of you motiongraphers want to start into live performance. Is a total obvious path for the visual artist. You know about AE to make awesome compositions, you have skills in 3d to generate outstanding visuals, but you need to know how to place them in surfaces and so on... MAPPING.
I leave you this great resource list for you to dig into whatever suits you best. Some of them more code based, others node based, other ones more of a post or switcher like software, and other simply to tackle specific tasks. Some of them work together. Mad mapper is a tool specilaized in mapping specifically, but you'll need to pair it to a real time mixing software to make it work.
I've tried more or less all of them, and although I tend to be PC based, Modul8 (mac based) works the best for me. But many others lover their Resolume or VDMX. Dig deep to master the technique, be part of communities, help others in what you know best (AE, C4d, 3ds, Combustion) they we'll be totally glad to help you out with your own doubts. And why not, divide your knowledge and gather a Mapping team. It's hard to know it all, sometimes is best to let the pros handle their area of expertise, in exchange of your beauty concepts and software control for compositions.
Hope you enjoy it, I'm sure after this, many of you will be away for a while. Learn and share.
